Document Encoding and Structuring Specification for Electronic Recipe Transfer (DESSERT)

[June 30, 2000] "The Format for Online Recipe Content. DESSERT is a format for representing recipes on computer. Currently [2000-06] under development, to be released to the public when a stable definition is agreed upon. DESSERT is written in the Extensible Markup Language (XML)."

"To create DESSERT files, you can use any text editor once you learn the format. A planned Java application, COBBLER for DESSERT, will allow authors to compose recipes without having to know the format."
