The SGML Toolbook
By Peter Flynn
Kluwer Academic Publishers; Dordrecht, Boston, & London
"March 1998"

"Here's the essential book on software for handling SGML: the complete
life-cycle guide to your documents. The SGML Toolbook is essential
reading for anyone building or using SGML systems, and provides a
valuable reference for all those times when you need the right tool
for the job. There are 10 chapters, covering the cycle of creation
through to to final archival. The free CD-ROM includes both commercial
and public-domain software, from demos to complete full systems, plus
a 90-day license for Corel's WordPerfect Suite 8 SGML wordprocessor."

See http://imbolc.ucc.ie/~pflynn/books/sgmltools.html, which provides a Contents listing.

[Earlier: SGML Power Tools, by Peter Flynn (silmaril@m-net.arbornet.org):

"I am currently writing a new guide to SGML Tools aimed at the
strictly practical nature of getting things to work. As my poster at
SGML'96 said, this is the book for people who want guidance between
tools, as well as help in getting them working in real life.
The SGML Power Tools Book will be published in 1997 by
International Thomson Computer Press (500pp plus CD-ROM)."

Building XML Applications
By Simon St.Laurent and Ethan Cerami
ISBN:0-07-134116-1 or possibly: 0-07-134115-3
McGraw-Hill
December 1998 or January 1999
Some text online: http://www.pbg.mcgraw-hill.com/betabooks/stlaurent/index.html
Also: http://www.simonstl.com/buildxml/index.html

"Building XML Applications provides developers with a solid
introduction to XML and key programming tools for building robust,
scalable XML applications in Java. After a thorough introduction to
XML's place in the developer's toolkit and its syntax, Building XML
Applications presents detailed coverage of parsers, a key tool for
developers. Focusing on Java development, the sample applications use
the Simple API for XML (SAX) to create parser-independent solutions
that can fit in a wide variety of situations. Other XML tools, like
style sheets, namespaces, linking, and the Document Object Model (DOM)
are also explored, giving developers a friendly but approachable
introduction to these revolutionary technologies."

"NN informs me that she's spotted my book, Just XML, at SoftPro
books. (This confirmed sighting gladdens the heart, since I haven't seen it
myself yet!) The SoftPro web site reference is:
http://www.softpro.com/softpro/0-13-943417-8.html. The page at the Prentice
Hall site is: http://www.phptr.com/ptrbooks/ptr_0139434178.html

Also, it's probably safe to include in the bib-rumor page something about
the site which supplements the book: http://www.flixml.org"

Teach Yourself XML in 21 Days
By Simon North, Paul Hermans
Email contact: north@Synopsys.COM

North says [1998-10-16]
We are just completing "Teach Yourself XML in 21 Days" now (Paul Hermans
of ProText in Belgium is assisting). Contrary to the Macmillan blurb, we
barely mention CDF. In fact, as lead author I've completely turned the
book around. It is now a very practical explanation of how to *use* XML;
convert it into other formats with Omnimark, Perl and Jade. How to use
Microsoft's DSO, Islands of Data and ActiveX controls. It includes CSS
and XSL and shows off Mozilla and IE5.

Sams.Net have a planned publication date of December 16th; we might
actually make it ....
