First Retail Mark-up Language

[June 26, 2000] "The Retail Industry has one of the most complex and demanding requirements for data infrastructure. FRML has been designed specifically to this model and provides the XML-based standard for Retail Information Systems. FRML has been created for free distribution throughout the industry to bring about a revolution in the sharing of information throughout the retail value chain. By providing a free standard to the industry, we hope that all parties will benefit from savings in time and resource in specifying, creating and implementing retail information systems."

"In answer to the need to integrate disparate streams of data to create retail intelligence, First Retail Corporation has defined a standard protocol for the retail industry - FRML. First Retail Mark-up Language (FRML) is based on a comprehensive and definitive glossary of retail industry terms. FRML is an information sharing standard that covers the data requirements for the majority of retail information applications. The XML Schema, Document Type Definitions and XSL Style sheets will be available in an up-to-date format maintained at a namespace located at www.frml.org."

"The FRML standards are maintained by a consortium of organizations with deep expertise in creating retail data infrastructures. This body currently comprises retailers, technology consultancies, industry organizations and technology vendors to the retail industry and welcomes the participation of any interested parties. . . For anyone wanting to develop a retail application, FRML, is effectively a free data model that will ensure compatibility with all other systems reducing development and installation costs. Both large and small organizations in any part of the retail value chain will now be able to participate in the information space of the retail industry."
