DataChannel's XML Framework

DataChannel announces XML Framework: The First XML Solution for Cross-platform Enterprise Information Portals (EIP)

With General Motors as the first Enterprise Customer and Microsoft as a Strategic Technology Partner

Bellevue, WA. March 02, 1999.

DataChannel, the premier XML value added integrator for the delivery of on demand corporate data through Enterprise Information Portals, announced today XML Framework, the first XML cross-platform solution. As the business world transforms to an information economy, Enterprises must extend legacy business systems to Intranets, Extranets and the Internet to expand customer reach and increase market capitalization. To accomplish this "web-ification" of their Enterprise, they need to build their own information gateways or portals and the bridges linking them to other information sources. Additionally, the information needs to be secure and users must be able to personalize it. DataChannel's XML Framework allows Enterprises to do just that by allowing them to exchange information between disparate systems while protecting their investment in existing technologies.

XML, the global "currency" of the new information economy, is the universal language for data exchange across these Enterprise Information Portals. As such, it is the foundation of DataChannel's XML Framework solution. DataChannel's XML Framework embraces and extends XML by providing a comprehensive portfolio of training, architectural design and consulting integration services, as well as developer tools, solution software and extensive maintenance and support offerings.

First Fortune 100 Enterprise Customer

General Motors discovered the DataChannel XML Framework solution when they were looking for a way to transform their current IT infrastructure to a next-generation computing environment. Establishing a two-way Enterprise portal with partners and customers underscored several key GM strategic initiatives. "We knew XML would provide the common denominator for sharing data throughout our Enterprise," said Dennis Walsh, CTO of General Motors. "We needed a vendor who could provide a comprehensive, XML-based, cross-platform solution to meet our requirements," Walsh continued. "Thanks to DataChannel and their XML Framework solution we will transform the way we develop applications company-wide forever. At long last, we will be able to unleash the information stored in legacy systems. Implementation will begin soon."

Cross-platform interoperability is critical to Microsoft who has partnered with DataChannel to make XML Framework part of its enterprise computing strategy. James Utzschneider, director of evangelism in Microsoft's Application Developer Customer Unit, said "DataChannel's XML Framework makes it easy for enterprise customers to integrate applications built on Microsoft BackOffice and the Windows DNA architecture with applications built on other platforms. Enterprise architects need to take a serious look at it."

According to David Pool, CEO of DataChannel, "An EIP is a system designed to give users personalized and secure access to a wide variety of information. Without ensuring ubiquitous access to corporate information, a portal becomes another legacy veneer placed on top of a company's IT infrastructure, adding yet another proprietary system." Pool continued, "At DataChannel, we recognize the magnitude of providing a cross-platform Enterprise solution that reaches back into the Enterprises' legacy environment and facilities the exchange of critical information. With the expertise we have in XML design and integration, coupled with our leading RIO information management software, we are uniquely positioned as the most comprehensive, leading edge XML Enterprise Portal solutions provider in the information economy."
