SGML Declarations

SGML Declarations, by Wayne L. Wohler

[Back to "SGML Declarations"] [Back to main SGML Page]

In 1992-1993, Wayne L. Wohler published a three-part serialized article on the SGML Declaration. It appeared in <TAG>: The SGML Newsletter, as one of <TAG>'s occasional SGML tutorial series, under the title "The DTD May Not Be Enough: SGML Declarations". See the three parts in: <TAG> 5/10 (October 1992) 6-9, <TAG> 6/1 (January 1993) 1-7; <TAG> 6/2 (February 1993) 1-6.

Thanks to the cooperation of Wayne Wohler, Brian Travis (Managing Editor of <TAG>), and Don Day (IBM Austin), this tutorial on the SGML declaration is now available via the Internet in HTML format. Wayne Wohler made the original source document available to Don Day, who used IBM's Bookmaster to create the HTML files.

You may access the online tutorial by pointing your WWW client (Mosaic, CELLO, Netscape, Lynx, etc.) at the following URL:

Congratulations are hereby extended to Brian Travis, SGML Associates, and GCA for allowing material published and copyrighted by <TAG> to be placed into public view. We hope other SGML publishers will, with increasing frequency, demonstrate willingness to serve the public by allowing the preparation and online publication of materials previously appearing in print format. Public gratitude is also offered to Wayne Wohler for his useful tutorial on the SGML declaration, and to Don Day for the data preparation.

For further information on subscription to <TAG> and availability of back issues, see the <TAG> main entry in the SGML Page. Comments or corrections pertaining to this online SGML tutorial may be directed to Wayne L. Wohler or Brian Travis at the addresses supplied below.
