New Products Offer Faster Time to Value by Converging the Development and Integration of Applications, Portals and Business Processes
Hong Kong. July 18, 2003.
Delivering further proof of its application infrastructure market leadership, BEA Systems, Inc. announced the general availability of BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1, BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1, BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 and BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1. BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 and each individual product, including the previously available BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 and BEA WebLogic JRockit 8.1, can be downloaded now from http://www.bea.com or customers can receive the development versions of the products at no charge for one year as part of the BEA dev2dev subscription program.
BEA's new products are based on a unique software architecture developed by BEA, all based on Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), extensible mark-up language (XML) and emerging Web services standards. This architecture offers faster time to value by converging application development and application integration into a unified, simplified and extensible application infrastructure platform.
"With more than 17,000 downloads worldwide of the beta versions of the products, several positive product reviews and more than 50 participants in the managed beta program, customers and partners can feel confident that BEA's new products deliver proven capabilities with unmatched ease of use," said Olivier Helleboid, executive vice president of products, BEA Systems.
BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 is based on a unified architecture that includes new versions of BEA's industry-leading application server and Java virtual machine, BEA's award-winning enterprise portal and application development framework, and BEA's innovative integration solution. BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 includes application infrastructure technology from proven BEA products that are used by thousands of customers worldwide and combined to offer a single, unified, easy-to-use infrastructure platform for application development, integration, deployment, and management.
BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 heralds a new era of business integration by changing the traditional approach to application integration and business process management. BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 is a single solution delivering application server, application integration, business process management, and trading partner integration functionality for the enterprise. BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 provides customers with a unified framework for business integration, simplified production and management, as well as a new architecture for the rapid assembly and integration of applications, business processes and partner trading networks. BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 provides a seamless production environment for integration specialists and application developers alike by leveraging BEA WebLogic Workshop development environment and a catalog of standards-based application integration adapters.
BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1 provides a unified, services-oriented development environment for IT organizations. Within this development environment, IT organizations can create custom Java and Web applications, extend and connect packaged software applications or Microsoft .NET applications to business processes, or develop composite applications or process portals, for example. BEA WebLogic Workshop supports a services- oriented development environment, which represents a new method of flexible application creation, that offers an extensible control architecture for rapid application assembly and greater re-use of business best practices. As a result, BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1 can increase development and application integration speed and flexibility by a factor of up to 10x compared to alternate technologies.
Lastly, BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1 can simplify the production and management of custom-fit portals and will be one of the first portals to support the new Java portlet standard, JSR 168, for portlet-level development, and the new Java content repository standard, JSR 170, for content management system integration. BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1 also offers a new portal design and development environment, based on BEA WebLogic Workshop, for the rapid development of portals by application developers. In addition, BEA WebLogic Portal 8.1 adds new content management capabilities, collaboration, search, Web integration, and native support for wireless communications.
BEA will expand on the momentum behind these new products, and highlight additional partner and customer news, at a press conference on Monday, August 4, 2003 in San Francisco. Alfred Chuang, CEO, chairman and founder of BEA, will host the event along with other BEA executives, customers and partners.
