Support for SOA Blueprints

Broad Industry Support Announced for SOA Blueprints

BEA Systems, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Sun Microsystems, The Middleware Company, VERITAS Software, Others Endorse Initiative to Boost Adoption of SOAs

Mountain View, CA, USA. June 28, 2004.

The Middleware Company today announced broad industry support for a new SOA Blueprints release available immediately. SOA Blueprints is a set of best practices for developing applications that use service-oriented architectures (SOAs). SOAs are principles and practices for sharing, reusing and orchestrating business logic represented as services or components. SOA Blueprints contains an open specification, third-party expert validation, and implementations using multiple technologies. Today's release is the second public draft available for review at SOABlueprints.com

SOA Blueprints has received support from BEA, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Sun Microsystems, The Middleware Company, VERITAS Software and several other companies, each of which may engage in one of three ways:

  1. By providing a best practice implementation of SOAs (BEA Systems, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Sun Microsystems, The Middleware Company, Pramati, Diamelle Technologies)
  2. By leading the formulation of best practices not currently described by SOA Blueprints (VERITAS Software, PushToTest, 7Irene)
  3. By contributing to the expert group or through ecosystem development (GrandCentral Communications, Iona, WestGlobal, Xede)

"The momentum and support around SOA Blueprints has exceeded our most optimistic expectations," said Salil Deshpande, CEO of The Middleware Company, a research and media company. "Since its launch there have been over 30,000 downloads and seven commitments to build comparable implementations using various technology such as J2EE, .NET and open source. This effort includes individuals, consulting companies and large software vendors working non-politically together to achieve a common goal. We continue to be excited by the interest and progress we are seeing."

About SOA Blueprints

SOA Blueprints, founded by The Middleware Company and BEA Systems, Inc., is an industry effort designed to help corporations more easily and affordably build service-oriented architectures (SOAs). SOA Blueprints highlights best practices through GeneriCo, a fictitious business entity, described in a functional and behavioral specification to demonstrate how SOA can solve real-world issues. SOA Blueprints creates a common vocabulary to educate and discuss SOAs in an architecturally neutral way allowing comparable implementations to be crafted using different technology sets including J2EE, .NET and Web Services.
