Miva Corporation and SoftQuad Announce Strategic Partnership

Companies Use XML and SGML Standards to Create Compatibility Among Products

SAN DIEGO, CA. May 03, 1999.

Miva Corporation, a leading provider of Web commerce software, today announced it has formed a strategic partnership with SoftQuad Software, Inc., a leading provider of multi-platform, standards-based content publishing tools. SoftQuad, makers of HoTMetaL Pro 5.0, an award-winning Web development tool, and Miva have used the XML and SGML standards in order to make their products compatible with each other.

As part of the strategic partnership, SoftQuad has incorporated various Miva products with the company's free HoTMetaL Power Pack. The HoTMetaL Power Pack is a complete application development solution for creating and testing dynamic Web applications for Miva Empresa, Miva Corporation's robust application engine.

"Our HoTMetaL product line, embedded with Miva's technology, provides our customers with incredibly robust and powerful tools for developing, testing, and deploying highly customized Web applications," says SoftQuad's Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Jonathon Sachs.

The HoTMetaL Personal Server is a SoftQuad branded version of Miva Mia and is a component of the HoTMetaL Power Pack. Miva Mia is the desktop edition of Miva Empresa and allows for desktop execution of applications developed using Miva Script, Miva Corporation's XML-based scripting language. Developers can create, execute and test applications created with HoTMetaL Pro 5.0 and Miva Script from the desktop before deployment on a Web server. In addition, users can move applications tested locally with the HoTMetaL Personal Server to a Web server enabled with Miva Empresa.

SoftQuad has also developed numerous applications written in Miva Script, called Power Parts, to increase Web site productivity. Power Parts, also a component of the HoTMetaL Power Pack, include a mail-to-order form, a banner ad rotator and statistical analysis tool and a robust password protection system with the ability to add and delete users, create and change passwords and various other customized applications.
