Parasoft's SOAPtest 2.6 Supports WS-Security 2004

Parasoft SOAPtest 2.6 Supports WS-Security in Comprehensive Web Services Testing Solution

Web Services Testing Product Boasts WS-Security Support, Application Logic Testing, and Asynchronous Testing

Monrovia, California, USA. April 15, 2004.

Parasoft, leading provider of Automated Error Prevention (AEP) software solutions, announced today the release of SOAPtest 2.6, the most comprehensive Web services testing product available today, verifying every aspect of a Web service from WSDL validation, to client/server unit and functional testing, to performance testing.

The latest version of SOAPtest offers full support for the recently approved WS-Security 2004, application logic testing, asynchronous testing support, and other features designed to help development teams prevent errors and accelerate time to market for their Web service initiatives.

"Cybersource chose Parasoft's SOAPtest for Web Services testing due to its breadth of functionality," said Mike Jimenez, Chief Architect, Cybersource Corporation. "It clearly stood out that Parasoft's SOAPtest was architected to not only meet the functional demands of today's environment but also to evolve as future standards and protocols are released. The flexibility of the product has enabled us to verify the most complex behaviors of our Web services including security and workflow and the level of automation has allowed us to build our tests in a surprisingly short amount of time."

What's new in SOAPtest 2.6

  • Enhanced WS-Security features including options for interoperability with various implementations of WS-Security

  • Fully integrated asynchronous HTTP testing including Parlay, Parlay X and SOAP Conversation Protocol support

  • Application logic testing: Can pass along dynamic results to subsequent tests, specify test suite logic and specify "start-up" and "clean-up" tests

  • Enhanced XML transformation tools with the ability to specify transformation and extractions

  • Detailed load testing report option with the ability to select and view individual hits in graphical or table mode

  • Uniform and Poisson randomization options in "Hits per Second" and "Virtual Users" mode

"We are constantly adding new features and functionality to SOAPtest in order to stay on the leading edge of Web services technology," said Gary Brunell, Parasoft Vice President of Professional Services. "Web services are maturing rapidly and Parasoft aims to give customers turnkey solutions to help them improve the software development lifecycle and prevent errors in the development process."

Availability

SOAPtest 2.6 is available for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux and Solaris. Pricing starts at $3995.

Additional Information on SOAPtest 2.6

From the product sheet and SOAPtest Quick Fact Sheet:

"SOAPtest is an automated tool for testing Web services. SOAPtest helps you to prevent errors by performing server functional testing, load testing, and client testing with just the click of a button. SOAPtest facilitates server functional testing by automatically creating a test suite from a WSDL document that tests every operation associated with that document. The same test suite used for server functional testing can also be used as a load test suite that not only monitors the servers response rate with the specified number and mixture of simultaneous requests, but also verifies whether the test loads cause functionality problems. You can also have SOAPtest emulate a server and verify that the client sends appropriate requests to the appropriate services, and that the client handles the services responses as expected. In addition to one-click server functional testing, load testing, and client testing, you can also use SOAPtest as a proxy server to view and verify messages between a client and a Web service..."

"Server functional testing ensures that the server delivers appropriate responses for the given requests. However, due to the complexity of Web services, this task is far from simple. With most Web services, it is impossible to anticipate exactly what types of requests clients will send. Enumerating all possible requests is not feasible because the space of possible inputs is either unbounded or intractably large. As a result, it is important to verify whether the server can handle a wide range of request types and parameters..."

"With SOAPtest, you can easily test the functionality of a Web service server. SOAPtest facilitates server testing by automatically creating a test suite from a WSDL document. You simply tell the program where to find the WSDL for the service you want to test, then click the Run Tests button. SOAPtest then generates a suite of test cases covering all possible methods, executes the test suite to uncover serious failures, and records the HTTP traffic for each test..."
