Subject: NewsML Toolkit 1.1 final

The final version of the open-source Java-based NewsML Toolkit 1.1 is now available for download from SourceForge:

      http://newsml-toolkit.sourceforge.net/.

This release fixes several bugs and relaxes conformance testing for DataContent/@Href.

The NewsML Toolkit is a Java library for processing packages of news syndicated using the IPTC NewsML standard and for testing conformance. To learn more about NewsML, see:

      http://www.newsml.org/.

For live NewsML samples, visit:

Again, this version was produced with the kind support of Reuters PLC.

All the best,

David

Reuters Releases NewsML Toolkit as Open Source Software

Development of the second major phase of functionality of the NewsML toolkit has completed and the software has been released at public website http://sourceforge.net/projects/newsml-toolkit. The toolkit is meant to be used both by subscribers of NewsML and by NewsML developers to simplify the processing of NewsML documents. The latest functionality allows the user to perform detailed searches of documents, using Java, in order to target specific content, without having to incur the overhead of directly examining every piece of data. In addition, the user can remove unwanted portions of a document and verify the resultant content is still valid, according to the NewsML standard.

The toolkit is a major step in Reuters effort to simplify the overheads involved with subscribers' learning to process and utilize NewsML data. Dave Compton, of Reuters Corporates/Media Group and David Megginson, consultant, were the developers responsible for the software.
