Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 15:31:14 -0400 From: B. Tommie Usdin <btusdin@MULBERRYTECH.COM> To: TEI-L@LISTSERV.BROWN.EDU Subject: Extreme Markup Languages - Student Discounts
Extreme Markup Languages is the technical conference for people interested in how markup can be used for information repurposing and reuse, interchange, and display. We work on applications relating to electronic commerce, biblical scholarship, interchange of medical records, text book publishing, and technical documentation. We are passionate about the semantic web, topic maps, open standards, commercial software, and international commerce. Our training and backgrounds are in philology, music, computer science, physics, math, biology, architecture, library science, typesetting, law, medicine, and practically everything - except what we do now, because what we do now didn't exist very long ago.
There are several subject-matter based conference There are several manager/user conferences each year about XML and the WWW, but Extreme is different. At Extreme there is no exhibit hall, no sessions for managers, no user comfort talks. No technical or theoretical punches are pulled, heresy is the order of the day. You can read more about this year's Extreme conference at:
and see the proceedings of last year's conference at:
http://www.extrememarkup.com/extreme/2001/ExtremeWeb/home.htm
The preliminary program and logistical information about Extreme 2002 are available at http://www.extrememarkup.com/extreme/ . The final Extreme 2002 program (including the late-breaking news sessions) will be available at that location in a week or so.
Student registration at Extreme 2002 will cost:
$250 (with conference lunches) $100 (without conference lunches - a food court is available within easy walking distance of the conference location)
The registration form at https://nt6.bnt.com/gca/extreme/2002/regform.asp will be modified to reflect these new rates in a day or three. In addition to registering on the web, students are required to fax or mail a copy of their Student ID and registration form to:
Kim Kenny IDEAlliance Registrar c/o Extreme Markup Languages 2002 100 Daingerfield Rd. Alexandria, VA 22314 Fax - 703.837.1072
in order to get the student rate. (And I suggest that they bring a student ID to the conference).
The $695 "academic" rate is still available for faculty.
Please pass the word. I'd like to see a lot of students take advantage of this unusual opportunity to attend a highly technical industry conference at reasonable student rates.
