The CL group offers a seminar in the continuing education series of the Computer Science Institute about using SGML in document markup and retrieval:.
With increasing numbers of documents being produced by companies, administration and educational institutions it becomes more and more important to file them in a structured way. SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) provides a language for the platform independent markup of such documents. In the proposed seminar we will show how SGML works and how it can be employed for structuring, retrieval, and distribution of documents. Furthermore we introduce the usage of SGML for hypertext documents via HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), the format for WWW documents. We will provide software tools for hands-on experience with SGML and HTML and we provide criteria for selecting the appropriate tools for a given task.
