   ----------------------------------------------------------------

The EAD implementation group at the Yale University Library is pleased to
announce that our system for the indexing, searching, and delivery of
encoded finding aids is now in production and available for use.

See: http://webtext.library.yale.edu/

The system includes finding aids from three Yale repositories: the
Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Divinity Library Special
Collections, and Manuscripts and Archives. There are currently 324
finding aids in the database and more will be added as retrospective
encoding of existing finding aids takes place and as new finding aids are
created.

The system uses OpenText's Livelink software (version 7), running on a
Digital Celebris GL 6200 with Windows NT, to index the finding aids and
to provide searching and delivery on the web. Searching can be done
across all three repositories or limited to any one of the three. We
have assumed the use of SoftQuad's Panorama Publisher 2.0 or Viewer
plug-in for viewing SGML versions of the finding aids. Since Panorama
Publisher is currently available only for Windows platforms and the
Viewer plug-in only for Windows NT and Windows 95, we have included HTML
versions of the finding aids for users who cannot mount the viewing
software.

The system represents more than a year of intense work by many people in
the three repositories, in the Systems Office of the Yale University
Library, and in Yale's Information Technology Services office. The
website includes links to the home pages of the three repositories, as
well as an electronic mail address for comments and suggestions. We
welcome feedback or questions on the system from users and from other EAD
implementors as we begin to plan for system enhancements.
