Emeryville, Calif., September 14, 1998 € Sybase, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYBS) and Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced an agreement that allows Sybase to license the Unisys Universal Repository (UREP) for future product development. This agreement will provide Sybase€s customers with a single point of control for complete application life cycle management- from design, to development and deployment- across heterogeneous client/server, Web, and distributed platforms.
Unisys UREP, a fully object oriented repository, will first be incorporated into the Sybase Enterprise Application Studio, an integrated product set that leverages existing applications and data with new Web technologies to reduce development and deployment costs. This solution increases developer productivity, decreases the amount of time and money dedicated to object development, and strengthens the quality of application design.
"Repository technology simplifies distributed application development by integrating information about multiple applications into one interface," said Eric Miles, senior vice president, product operations at Sybase. "Unisys has been a leader in developing open industry standards for object-oriented repository technology. Using UREP as the foundation for Sybase€s repository strategy will enable customers to efficiently manage large numbers of applications and increase productivity. The end result is a lower total cost of ownership."
"Sybase is a world leader in setting high performance and scalability standards for application development that are demanded by global organizations. We are thrilled that Sybase has chosen UREP as the basis of its object repository strategy," said Art Sarno, business director, Object Interoperability and Repository Program, Unisys Computer Systems. "Unisys looks to partner with world-class software vendors such as Sybase, which is a leader in supporting all major industry standards and spanning mainframe to client/server, distributed Web, and mobile computing information systems."
