The Web is ruined and I ruined it.
It's kaput. Over. There's been a lot of talk in the newsgroups over the last 18 months about a guy named David Siegel, the Web's foremost HTML terrorist. Why do I get death threats in e-mail? Why do the so-called HTML "purists" hate my guts? And why did the W3C invite me to sit on the committees that shape HTML and style sheets? What kind of a snake pit is this? Have I really ruined the Web, and if so, what is my punishment? This article takes several thoughts from my upcoming book, the sequel to Creating Killer Web Sites. It covers HTML and its evolution into a form of nerd Nirvana, and just possibly a desirable distraction for designers.
