SGML Open Appoints New Executive Director.
Robin A. Tomlin to Lead Consortium in Next Phase of Growth.
Coraopolis, PA, April 19, 1996--The Board of Directors of SGML Open, the
international industry consortium dedicated to promoting SGML, is pleased to
announce that Robin A. Tomlin has been appointed to the position of
executive director. As the Consortium moves into its third year with
membership at an all time high, Tomlin will provide the expertise to
represent those who have a serious stake in growing the SGML market and
influencing its direction.
"Tomlin possesses both the qualifications to continue the success that SGML
Open has experienced and the leadership ability to guide the organization to
the next level," notes Eric Severson, President of SGML Open. "We are
excited to have her on board."
Tomlin's experience in the industry extends back to 1981. Working with the
Navy for over eight years, Tomlin promoted the adoption of SGML within the
Department of Defense as part of the CALS initiative. Later at Datalogics,
she established consulting services and training for SGML publishing
applications. Tomlin has been involved since 1989 in conference events and
tutorials for the Graphics Communication Association (GCA). She was appointed
co-chair of the GCA Information and Technology Conference in 1992. Most
recently, Tomlin served as Executive Manager for Intergraph Corporation, a
sponsor member of SGML Open, where her responsibilities included product and
industry marketing, strategic third party relationship management and
business development for the corporate document management technology.
"As a representative of a Consortium sponsor company, I appreciate first-hand the
value that SGML Open delivers to its members," Tomlin observes. "Having
previously served on the Board of Directors for the organization, I
understand what's involved in managing the Consortium and am enthusiastic
about furthering the direction and goals of SGML Open."
Tomlin succeeds Mary Fletcher Laplante, who served as the executive director
of SGML Open for its first two years.
