Seybold Seminars and Wired Digital Joining Forces to Launch Seybold/Wired Web Publisher Conference

Conference to Debut at Seybold Seminars New York/Publishing 98 Event

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Feb. 9, 1998 -- When Wired launched HotWired (http://www.HotWired.com) three years ago, it launched a Web publishing revolution. Today, HotWired, and other leading content sites like it, are proving that the Web is no longer a cottage industry, but a powerful global publishing medium with a reach and immediacy that goes far beyond traditional print and television.

To provide Web professionals with the business, design, and technology skills necessary to succeed in the new online publishing industry, Wired Digital Inc., the creator of HotWired, Wired News and HotBot, has joined forces with Seybold Seminars to co-host the new Seybold/Wired Web Publisher Conference to be held at Seybold Seminars New York/Publishing 98. The conference will be held March 16-17, 1998 at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Seybold Seminars is produced by ZD COMDEX & FORUMS.

The Seybold/Wired Web Publisher Conference is the first Seybold Seminars conference program solely dedicated to the latest advancements in Web/Internet publishing technologies. It is designed in tandem with Wired Digital to provide a comprehensive and practical look at the tools, techniques, trends, and strategies driving Web publishing today. The co-sponsorship with Wired allows conference attendees access to a broad range of cutting-edge topics, speakers, and content from the company that is a recognized front-runner in Web design and development.

``As part of our expanding commitment to the Web developer community, we are proud to be working with Seybold Seminars to create the Seybold/Wired Web Publisher Conference,'' said Hunter Madsen, senior vice president of marketing, Wired Digital. ``As a producer and publisher of one of the top 20 destinations on the Web, Wired's up-to-the-minute exposure to the most current issues in digital media has allowed us, together with Seybold Seminars, to shape a keenly relevant and thoroughly useful learning experience for attendees.''

Powerful Information for Today's Web Developer

The Seybold/Wired Web Publisher Conference is built around four separate tracks -- Content, Design, Code and Business -- that allow publishing professionals to explore the Web's technological, creative, and financial challenges and opportunities in order to gain the skills necessary to craft successful Web publishing strategies. The conference will feature tutorials, special interest seminars, and conference sessions on issues including ``Building Dynamic Web Sites,'' ``New Thinking for a New Medium,'' ``Large-Scale Content Management,'' ``Software Tools for Web Designers,'' ``Typography on the Web,'' ``Interfaces for the Future,'' ``XML Xposed,'' and ``The Implication of the New Ad Models.'' The conference sessions will feature several speakers plus a moderator so that open debate about Web publishing issues and technology can be facilitated with conference attendees.

June Cohen, vice president of content development for Wired Digital, noted, ``Building award-winning Web content over the last three years has allowed us to be at the forefront of the issues and techniques driving Web development today. Our seminar tracks for the conference are built on that hard earned experience to provide Web developers with the best tips and strategies for the next phase in this exploding medium.''

``This is the first time that we have created a special conference at Seybold Seminars for Web/Internet publishing professionals,'' said Craig Cline, vice president of content for Seybold Seminars. ``With the new reality of the publishing industry -- where the Web as a publishing medium is driving rapid change -- there is a demand for information about the technology and issues that support Web publishing. Since Seybold Seminars has always been the publishing market's technology filter, we took the lead in creating a focused educational program to provide publishing professionals with the best information, education and analysis available about Web publishing.''

Registration for the Seybold Wired/Web Publisher 98 Conference is available online at http://www.seyboldseminars.com or by calling 888-800-8922 or 650-372-7072. Pricing ranges from $795 to $2095 depending on the conference package selected. Company group discounts are available.
