This seems like a good time (!) to announce that I have been working on
an enhanced version of the Whirlwind Guide in readiness for the SGML '96
conference in Boston next month.
A preliminary version is now available at the following URL:
http://www.falch.no/people/pepper/sgmltool/products.htm
The most obvious change is the appearance. The most useful is the revamped
taxonomy: We now operate with 30 different categories, which makes it
possible to express some of the finer distinctions between tools.
Tools can now appear in more than one category, which solves at least some
of the "pigeonholing" problems we have had in the past.
There are a number of other improvements. Take a look and see. As always,
I am eternally grateful for comments, feedback and updates.
NOTE TO VENDORS:
The Whirlwind Guide will be printed in the proceedings of the SGML '96
conference. To ensure maximum accuracy, please check out the entries
for your company and its tools, and let me know by email if anything needs
updating. The deadline for the conference version is November 5.
Best regards,
Steve
