OASIS Expands XML Technical Work and Services, International Consortium Adds New Staff Positions for XML.org
BOSTON, MA. September 20, 1999.
OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, today announced plans to expand its technical work and member services by adding several new staff positions.
Most of the new personnel will concentrate on advancing the work of XML.org, the open, vendor-neutral industry portal for the Extensible Markup Language (XML).
"Membership in OASIS has reached an all-time high," explained Laura Walker, executive director of the Consortium. "In response to this tremendous growth, we are broadening the scope of our technical work--particularly the XML.org Registry and Repository--and expanding our member services programs."
As part of the expansion, OASIS is seeking a program director to lead the implementation and management of XML.org, a technical staff member to support the XML.org and OASIS technical working groups and a webmaster to enhance the Consortium's sites (including the OASIS site, XML.org, the CGM Open site and Robin Cover XML Pages). OASIS will also add a member services manager dedicated to meeting the needs of Sponsor, Contributor, Associate and Individual members of OASIS.
"OASIS realizes that to create and maintain an open XML Registry and Repository requires significant resources. We're providing an open, vendor-neutral location where anyone can access or post XML schemas for electronic commerce, business-to-business transactions, and tools and application interoperability," noted Walker. "The surge in OASIS membership, combined with the sponsorship of XML.org Partners and Affiliates, have provided the funding we need to expand our staff and accelerate our efforts."
