OASIS Welcomes New Sponsors, AND-USA, Interleaf and Software AG

International Membership of XML Industry Consortium Increases as Interest in the Standard Builds

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. September 14, 1998.

OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, today announced that AND-USA, Interleaf and Software AG have become sponsor members of the international consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of XML, SGML, HTML and other information interchange standards.

TechnoTeacher and VEO Systems have also joined the consortium as contributors. The new members are all pioneers in the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and have joined OASIS in a common effort to promote that emerging standard.

AND-USA Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of AND International Publishers. Based in Rotterdam, AND is a well-established company with a long heritage in electronic publishing including works for such publishers as Grolier and Oxford University Press.

``As a supplier of distribution and access tools to the electronic publishing community we believe that the benefits of OASIS membership are perfect for our organization,'' says Steve McDorman of AND-USA. ``We particularly look forward to participating in OASIS sponsored events and taking advantage of opportunities to present our company, our products, and our ideas in that environment.''

Interleaf Inc. provides enterprise-active publishing solutions for complex, active documents across the extended enterprise and the Web. Interleaf's open software products integrate electronic publishing, web publishing, database publishing, and document management, making it easy for customers to assemble, manage, retrieve, distribute, and publish business-critical information across the extended enterprise.

``Interleaf was one of the founders of OASIS, and we are excited now to sponsor the consortium's new work to promote XML,'' says Jaime Ellertson, president of Interleaf. ``OASIS is a natural fit with Interleaf's mission to put XML to work for business, going beyond the web to enterprise content management. ''

Software AG, based in Darmstadt, Germany, is one of the largest software companies worldwide, with more than 2,000 employees and sales amounting to DM 628 million in 1997. Software AG products and services support the seamless integration of transaction-based mission-critical applications over heterogeneous platforms, from mainframe, OpenVMS, AS/400, Unix and Windows NT to the Web.

``Joining OASIS is a direct consequence of our firm belief that XML represents a very important technological foundation for electronic business'' says Dr. Peter Mossack, Vice President Research & Development at Software AG. ``As such it must be promoted, and we are looking forward to working with other OASIS partners in making it happen sooner rather than later.''

OASIS (www.oasis-open.org) is a non-profit, international consortium dedicated solely to product-independent data and content interchange. Focusing on product interoperability, conformance and market awareness, OASIS embraces the complete spectrum of structured information standards including XML, SGML and HTML. OASIS sponsors include Adobe Systems, AND-USA, ArborText, Chrystal Software, Database Publishing Systems, DataChannel, Folio, Graphic Communications Association, Inso, Interleaf, ISOGEN, Poet Software, SoftQuad, Software AG, Sorman Information, STEP, Sun Microsystems, Texcel, Thomson, Xyvision, and the Yuri Rubinsky Insight Foundation.
