The W3C Device Independence Working Group (DIWG) has released three specifications on D-I authoring, adaptation, and presentation of Web content. "Device Independence Principles" articulates a vision of the WG's core principles and goals. A revised draft on "Authoring Challenges" discusses authoring for multiple devices having different capabilities. The BPMI Notation Working Group has announced the release of a public draft for the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN Version 1.0). The objective of BPMN is to support process management by both technical users and business users by providing a notation that is intuitive to business users yet able to represent complex process semantics. Microsoft. W3C has published a report by Steven R. Bratt (W3C Chief Operating Officer) on the matter of US Patent 5,838,906 and the Eolas v. Microsoft lawsuit. The patent is described as applicable to Java applets, browser plug-ins, ActiveX components, Macromedia Flash, Windows Media Player, and related "embedded program objects." The W3C CSS Working Group has released new working drafts for the Cascading Style Sheets language which is playing an increasingly important role in styling many kinds of XML documents.
