ANNOUNCEMENT OF PUPLIC RELEASE OF DRAFT SPECIFICATION:
The Meta-File for Interactive Documents (MID), A Draft Specification
for the Encoding of Interactive Documents, November 1994
is now available in downloadable form on the Internet.
This draft of the MID Specification has been prepared for purposes of review
and comment by the general National and International technical community
interested in standards for Interactive Electronic Documents which require a
mechanism (i.e., script) for controlling the presentation of text, graphics,
and other multimedia information developed for electronic display. It is
written as an application of ISO 8879 SGML and utilizes portions of the ISO
10744 HYTIME extensions to SGML. While it was initiated by the Navy for
purposes of developing a run-time standard for DoD Interactive Electronic
Technical Manuals (IETMs), the MID Standard has been intentionally developed
to be suitable for inclusion in an International-Level standard and to be
applicable to generic scripted interactive documents of any nature and for any
application. The Navy point of contact is Eric Jorgensen, CDNSWC Code 182,
email: jorgense@oasys.dt.navy.mil.
