[David Megginson]

| I am not certain that the ten or eleven of us who like to debate
| obscure, technical points of the standard would be enough to keep a
| Usenet newsgroup alive (even if 30 or 40 industry people listening in).
| Perhaps it would be best to start with a mailing list, and then post an
| RFD in a few months if traffic is high enough. The advantage of a
| private list is that the moderator will not have to deal with as many
| irrelevant postings.

comp-std-sgml@naggum.no exists. _the_ list for obscure, technical points.

to subscribe, send a note to <comp-std-sgml-request@naggum.no> with the
word "subscribe" somewhere in the message to subscribe (or "unsubscribe" to
unsubscribe). the envelope return address will be used for subscription
processing. all messages are archived in

        ftp.naggum.no:/pub/comp.std.sgml/yyyy/yyyymmdd/HHMMSS

for messages dated yyyy-mm-dd HH:MM:SS UT. an index service will be provided.

(hint 1: make sure your mailer uses valid time zones. these should always
be numeric, but can use the abbreviations in RFC 822 if used correctly.)

(hint 2: if you use cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, MS Mail or some other "commercial
grade" mail package or gateway, get an account with any of the numerous
Internet service providers that uses mail software that is well-behaved.)
