BEA and Object Design Forge Marketing Relationship

BEA and Object Design Forge Strategic Technology and Marketing Relationship

Companies to Work Together to Integrate Leading Web Application Server With Leading ODBMS

SAN JOSE, California. and BURLINGTON, MA. February 16, 1999.

BEA Systems, Inc., a leading provider of end-to-end middleware solutions for enterprise applications, and Object Design, Inc., the leading provider of object data-management solutions for C++, Java, and XML-based applications, today announced that they have entered into a strategic technical and marketing relationship. The two companies plan to work together on product integration and joint programs designed to help customers build best-of-breed enterprise Java applications by leveraging the integration of the industry's highly acclaimed BEA WebLogic Java-based Web application server with the leading object database, Object Design's ObjectStore.

BEA WebLogic is the only application server that is written completely in Java and provides the most comprehensive implementation of the Java enterprise standards, including Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) technology. "Our goal is to provide our respective customers with a roadmap for building a best-of-breed system that leverages the industry's best object database and Java application server," said Larry Alston, vice president of marketing for Object Design. "We feel that there is no better combination for building and deploying enterprise Java applications."

ObjectStore enables developers to store their Java objects intact, thus eliminating the need for relational mapping code. This results in superior time-to-market and performance over relational database solutions. Furthermore, ObjectStore's patented caching technology automatically provides every application server with a local data cache that is automatically kept 100 percent up-to-date and transactionally consistent.

"ObjectStore's architecture is especially well-suited to our customers who are deploying Java applications across a cluster of BEA WebLogic servers," said Scott Dietzen, chief technology officer for BEA's WebXpress division. "ObjectStore's ability to maintain a consistent, in-memory cache on every server results in excellent performance, scalability, and reliability, which are critical considerations when deploying EJB components."

For information on integrating enterprise Java applications with the BEA WeLogic application server and Object Design, refer to the white paper posted at www.objectdesign.com. Customers who would like a copy of this paper sent to them should call Andy Murphy at 781-674-5300. Object Design plans to exhibit at BEA's Users Conference Feb. 21-24 in New Orleans, and will be available to discuss the benefits of the ObjectStore database with BEA WebLogic customers.
