XEROX' CHRYSTAL SOFTWARE UNIT DEBUTS ASTORIA 2.0

Document component management system dramatically improves the way organizations capture and distribute business knowledge

NEW YORK, Seybold Expo, Booth # 537 — April 21, 1997 — Chrystal Software, a Xerox New Enterprise Company, today formally announced Astoria® 2.0, an upgrade to its high-performance document component management system. Release 2.0 enhances Astoria’s ability to manage documents, and the components that comprise them, while adding significant new features developed from the company’s two-years’ experience with its global customers.

"Astoria 2.0 is a reflection of Chrystal Software’s commitment to strategic, long-term relationships with our customers, built upon a foundation of perceiving them not just as customers, but as collaborators," said Laura Walker, director of marketing for Chrystal Software. "Offering impressive refinements, including custom attributes, support for Windows NT 4.0 and powerful additions to its already robust Software Development Kit (SDK), the new release is generating a great deal of excitement."

Astoria is a powerful yet easy-to-use document component management system, designed to make the process of capturing, managing and assembling documents composed of millions of information components easier and more efficient. Astoria manages components of documents rather than entire files. By offering access to the individual components that comprise documents, Astoria builds a technology bridge from the old way of manually assembling documents to a completely new and automated method, resulting in improved information reuse.

Astoria supports all the file types used in today’s production environments, such as word processing documents, SGML, HTML and XML files, graphic files, and audio and video clips. By storing all files in a single open system, Astoria eliminates the need for users to learn multiple systems, lowers management overhead, and improves control over document accuracy.

Around the world, Chrystal Software has helped organizations improve their ability capture and distribute business-critical information. Astoria customers include Rover, Daimler Benz, Nokia, Jouve, Elanders, Fiat, SAAB, Lufthansa, the Royal Air Force, and-of course-Xerox.
