SeeBeyond Sponsors Formation of WSBPEL TC

SeeBeyond Sponsors Formation of Technical Committee for Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WSBPEL)

OASIS Member Supports Merging of Competing Specifications to Accelerate Development of Open Standards for Business Process Integration

Los Angeles, CA, USA. April 30, 2003.

As an active member of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) open standards consortium, SeeBeyond, the leading global provider of enterprise integration and composite application assembly solutions, today announced its role as a sponsor organization in the advancement of a specification to formally describe interoperable business processes and business interaction protocols for Web services orchestration.

SeeBeyond has joined the newly formed OASIS Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WSBPEL) Technical Committee, and will continue work on the Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS) specification -- an XML-based language that allows users to describe business process activities as Web services and define how they can be orchestrated to accomplish specific tasks. Additional participants in the technical committee include such organizations as BEA Systems, Booz Allen Hamilton, EDS, IBM, Microsoft, SAP and Siebel Systems.

"As a leader and innovator in solutions for developing integrated composite application networks, SeeBeyond works with all of the major standards organizations to support the deployment of open solutions, and we will continue to participate in the further development of this important specification to meet our customers' integration and BPM needs," said Alan Davies, vice president of Standards for SeeBeyond. "It is especially beneficial when competing technologies can be merged through an open standards process, and with SeeBeyond's experience in integrating enterprise systems for over a decade, we believe WSBPEL will provide greater interoperability between disparate systems to both accelerate and complement the adoption of business process management solutions."

Formed in 1993, OASIS is a not-for-profit, global consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of e-business standards, producing worldwide standards for security, Web services, XML conformance, business transactions, electronic publishing, topic maps and interoperability within and between marketplaces.
