Burton Group Announces New Research And Advisory Service

New Burton Group Research Provides Practical Advice to Technologists Implementing Application Platform Standardization

New Application Platform Strategies Research & Advisory Service Focuses on the Evolution of Enterprise Application Architectures

Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. July 8, 2003.

Burton Group, the only IT research and advisory firm focused exclusively on offering in-depth analysis of enterprise infrastructure technologies, today announced a new research and advisory service at its annual Catalyst Conference held in San Francisco. Application Platform Strategies provides in-depth analysis for IT professionals who develop, deploy, integrate, and manage enterprise application architectures.

Research coverage areas for Application Platform Strategies include:

  • Application frameworks such as Java and Microsoft .NET
  • The Web services framework and standards
  • Application server middleware and tools
  • EAI and B2B integration

"Competitive pressures, the need to reduce costs, and a variety of other business factors are driving enterprises to integrate business processes and IT. Enterprises are creating both internally and externally facing systems that tie employees, customers, partners, suppliers, contractors, and other constituents into their business processes," said Jamie Lewis, CEO of Burton Group. "These trends are creating wholesale change in enterprise IT architectures. Application Platform Strategies provides in-depth, technical, and practical information that helps enterprises deal with these changes, accelerating the development and deployment process."

Burton Group has assembled a team of highly respected industry analysts to launch the service with plans to staff-up as demand continues. Gary Hein, research service director will lead and manage the research process working closely with Anne Thomas Manes, research director and Jim Kobielus, senior analyst.

Application Platform Strategies is designed for application architects, developers, and IT managers charged with developing and maintaining a comprehensive application integration strategy and architecture for their enterprise organization.

"Web services is an effective integration solution," said Craig Severson, assistant director - IT architecture, the Principal Financial Group, "but its shifting landscape of standards, vendors and solutions makes it challenging to stay current and focus on infrastructure at the same time. We expect Burton Group's Application Platform Strategies research to help us in developing a more flexible application infrastructure."

During the course of the year, Application Platform Strategies will deliver approximately 20 in-depth research reports and 12 TeleBriefings.

The following is a sample of research reports already available from Application Platform Strategies:

  • "Standardizing EAI with Web Services: An Inevitable but Prolonged Transition"
  • "Microsoft's .NET Platform: Bringing Web Services into the Core of Windows"
  • "Java Standards for Web Services: Bringing Synergy to a Fractured Environment"

The following research topics will be covered during Application Platform Strategies' inaugural year:
